Abandoned Gothic City – pt3 & Like painting with chocolate sauce

So the extra plastic plants arrived! They’ve been stripped of their stalks & bagged, and the stalks been used to fill out the remaining terrain pieces. With this done I’ve managed to crack on with sand texturing, then ‘browning’ the bases, spray texturing, and finally base coat spray painting.

The two colours of base coat spray were done for two reasons, first for doing differing colours/paint effects on the finished buildings, and second because I ran out of the brown spray before i finished ;)

However because watching paint to dry is tedious I’ve also been plugging on with getting my Larp weapons ready for being latexed, which is what I’ve been doing this afternoon. Incidentally liquid latex (a white milky liquid) when mixed with brown artist acrylic paint both look like (and has the texture of) melted cadburys chocolate, which really makes you hungry when trying to concentrate on painting.

Sunday – Weapon Making & Cake

So had a slightly surreal Sunday today flitting between drying contact adhesive for Larp weapons, and baking a dark chocolate layered torte (that’s what the recipe called it anyway! I’d just call it cake;)

I’m kinda happy with how both the axe handles and the cake came out so today’s been a win :)

And now for something completely different…

As the post office continues to taunt me with a lack of plastic plants :( I decided to nip along to Skian Mhor to pickup supplies for larp weapon making and get to work. So far I’ve started on a pair of Viking style axes.

The top one will be 36 inches long and the bottom 24 inches, hopefully I’ll be able to sculpt shapely ‘wooden’ handles like the pictured sketch. I’m also going to leave these light on adornment so they can be used in a variety of systems / monster roles.

Abandoned Gothic City – pt 2

So I’ve finally managed to get back to this terrain set, since the last update I have:

  • Roughed up all of the cut edges with a pair o plastic snips
  • Floors have been tiled with cereal box cardboard cut to 2x1cm tiles
  • All of the construction holes in the Pegasus terrain have been filled with blanking or gargoyle plugs
  • Rubble made from spare plastic off cut (mostly Pegasus gothic terrain bits) has been added around all of the buildings
  • Pipework has been added around the ‘bournville cocoa’ tanks, and checker plate added to the floors of this piece
  • 150 green plastic… stalks (unless you can think of a better name for them) have been added to all the pieces for plastic jungle plants to fit onto later. Unfortunately I got a bit over enthusiastic with these and ran out to soon so I’ve ordered another couple of hundred plastic plants on stalks (incidentally if your looking for these search for ‘plastic grass mat’)
  • Lot o white filler-ing has been done everywhere to blend the components together, and I made a few small rubble/jungle pieces to flesh out the terrain set between the larger buildings.

Next thing to do is add more jungle stalks, blend them in with filler and then PVA, sand & gravel texturing of the bases.

Hope these amuse

Bolt Action Terrain Commission – Pt 4

Finished! Well almost anyway, just waiting for the water effect on the lake/pond to dry clear. The 4Ground buildings came out great (as always!) and I’m particularly happy with how the hedge/fences came out giving a nice mix of the hard structure of the fence (Renedra) with the soft natural looking bushes (Woodland Scenics). Anyhoo pictures below…

Cheers

Sunday Baking

I find baking on a Sunday morning relaxing, it’s kinda like terrain making but you can eat them ;) so for childish fun today we made Honey & Chocolate Butterfly’s.

Bolt Action Terrain Commission – Pt 3

Update! Due to the recent clement weather here i’ve mostly been building real walls in my garden, but here are some in progress shot of the small amount of progress that i’ve made. And along with them (to pad the post out ;P) i’ve taken some photo’s of the other already complete terrain that will fill out this commission.

Note: The mini’s used for scale are a Blitzkreig Miniatures 1/56th Sherman (basecoated), and a Warlord Games American Airbourne Jeep (painted by AndyM).

Hope these amuse

Bolt Action Terrain Commission – Pt 2

So the 4Ground buildings arrived about a week ago, but in meantime I’ve textured up an brown’d all of the other terrain that’s on the construction list.

Hopefully should get a start made on these buildings over the weekend.

Fantasy Terrain Commission – pt3

Bolt Action Terrain Commission – Pt 1

So I’ve taken on a new terrain commission… only slightly before finishing the previous commission. It’s nice being wanted :P but should probably show more restraint in future.

Anyhoo so I’ll be supplying most of the basics (trees, hills, roads, etc.) from my own terrain (as I have rather too much!), this leaves on the list for building: Lineal terrain, fences from the most excellent plastics by ‘Renedra Generics’ and hedges from ‘Woodland Scenics’ clump foliage over a balsa wood former and a lake made from layers of 3mm MDF. Also as I’m building and I have ‘some’ trees kicking around (some in this case = 125 … What? They were cheap and I’m a sucker for a deal!) I’m putting some more tree bases together. There will also be a number of buildings from 4Ground.co.uk, but as they haven’t arrived yet I’ll come back to them!

Also I managed to bag a cheap and more importantly a silent compressor for running air brushes. It’s runs at a comparable volume to a fridge compressor and can hold upto to 8 bar pressure with an output greater than my current airbrush can put a dent in, Teeheehee new toy quite happy :)
