Necro-fun-da – Part 5

So the largest two pieces and the gantries are now painted, though they are still to get posters and weathering once everything else has gotten to this stage. Progress & updates will likely slow for a bit as I’m getting married in 9 days *eep!*. But here are some pictures to tide you over in the meantime:

Hope these amuse

Necro-fun-da – Part 4

So three cans of B&Q’s stone effect spray later (I may have gone a bit overboard with this to really grime up this terrain set) and some sand & gravel, the Necromunda terrain is now textured.

Now some people ask me / wonder at this stage why I spend so much money (£8 a can) making perfectly good looking terrain nobbly. All I can say at this point is trust me (as currently it just looks grey) that the added texture REALLY adds to the finished paint job.

Anyhoo I’ve got a day off work tommorow so will be cracking on with undercoating this lot in the morning, then have some wedding planning stuff to do in the afternoon ;)

Hope this amuses

Necro-fun-da – Part 3

Much plastic, various glues and slightly burnt fingers later the detailing is now completed. Next is onto the sand & gravel texturing, then painting… but here are some in progress pics to wet your appetite with ;)

I have also put together my new gang from Games Workshop’s Chaos Cultists with plenty of weapon and head swaps to make them more interesting. Next is some green stuffing of collars and other bits & bobs to finish them off.

Hope these amuse

Necro-fun-da – Part 2

So i’ve managed to rough out the shapes of all the buildings, using three and six millimeter thick mdf to make the floors of the funny shaped buildings (and ghetto!). Now just need to base up the remainder then crack on with detailing, for which I have some sheets of ‘slaters treadplate’ to cut up and create a metal patchwork effect. Anyhoo progress pictures:

Necro-fun-da – Part 1

So for a bit of light hearted fun gaming I’m signing up for the upcoming Necromunda campaign at 6’s2Hit. However as 6’s2Hit have no Necromunda specific terrain Kenny threw me 2 big boxes of Mantic’s “Battlezones” modular terrain to make up for the store, it’s not great stuff (It feels flimsy, connectors are fiddly & looks boringly cube like) but it’s something to make a start from… and hey it’s free.

Here is what I’ve put together so far, building around Necromunda’s tower & gantry style:

Necromunda Towers & Gantrys

Next I’m going to try making this sets boring cube design into something more interesting, and convert up a new gang from GW chaos cultists from the dark vengeance intro set.

Safety note: Also achieved my first visit to casualty this weekend after stabbing my thigh with a craft knife :( three hours and three stitches later I’d like to say BE CAREFUL WITH KNIVES!

The HILLS are alive with the sound of…… table saws!

So as you may or may not know Edinburgh has a new wargaming venue/store courtesy of Kenny at 6’s2Hit (http://www.facebook.com/6s2Hit) on Bread Street. It has eight permanent six foot by four foot tables for people to drop in and get a game on, and also has more space which they can spread out into for tournaments. They also have a cafe (currently under construction) and a very wide ranging selection of wargames products in the store (with crazy good discounts). All in all its a fantastic addition to Edinburgh gaming scene and definitely worth a visit.

However as ‘6’s2Hit’ is trying to do ten billion things at once (with a finite amount of staff time), Kenny commisioned me to make ‘some’ hills for him. Some in this case being 70!!! So here are a few ‘in progress’ pics of my workshop being swamped by hills :D

You’ll notice that these haven’t been painted yet, this is because Kenny wants to match the hills to the stores existing table basing colours.

Cheers

Larp ‘Props’ Finished

So here are ‘some’ pictures of the new larp ‘props’ that i’ve made, along with some of my own and friends that i’ve ‘refurbished’. During this process, even though i have attended many of Skian Mhor’s contruction workshops, i’ve learned lots of new things about the processes around making these props simply by having to do them all from start to finish

Some thoughts for myself for the future:

  • Spray Latexing in a shed when its snowing outside is COLD! Solution = either Heating or Summer
  • Blade Beveling & Airbrushing work is a little patchy so needs more practice, maybe get some tips from Sean @ Skian Mhor
  • Isoflex really really honks out the house! Solution = warm weather so you can vent to outside without freezing your ass off

Incidentally I was making some of these ‘props’ as an exercise in improving my skills (and not wasting some materials), not to keep them all so if your interested in getting any of the below at materials cost please drop me a line ;)

Abandoned Gothic City – pt4

So i’ve FINALLY finished this terrain set, talk about back burner or what, and next week it’s either off to the new 6’s2Hit shop (if Kenny likes) or to elg (as they already like:).

But in the meantime here it is in all its glory, with a pretty backdrop thanks to a friend with an A0 printer.

Hope these amuse

Backgrounds & The Perils of Spray Latexing

*Phew* so back finally after a crazy December (sickness, family visit, new job for partner, Christmas, then New Years) arg where did the time go, also have the legit excuse of getting married in April which has used up ‘some time’ (so many decisions!)

Anyhoo now back to hobby, I’ve managed to finish of the Jungle Ruins set (see following post) but thought I’d first talk about Backgrounds for photography.

If you can get hold of an appropriate canvas picture (or have a friend with an A0 printer:) the I think that backgrounds are what really ‘ice the cake’ on professional looking photo’s.

And onto my other hobby of making larp weapons I’d really like to reiterate what Leah Kurzepa said on her blog that when spraying latex it gets EVERYWHERE!!!

image

This paper box of my fiancés was not only behind me but at the other end of the room when I was spraying. I may have a bit of tidying to do :( and will evict myself to the garden shed ‘spray booth’ next time.
